This page records my progress with the restoration of my 1941 Harley-Davidson WL - this H-D was used by the Union Defence Force of South Africa in World War 2. The SAUDF acquired around 4,500 motorcycles from the US War Department mid-1940 and they were used in the East Africa Campaign, the Madagascar Campaign and the North Africa Campaign.

More NOS Parts Ordered
My next parts purchase is to get a NOS wiring harness for the H-D. But these are fairly expensive - especially if you are purchasing the parts in ZAR's.
But I have managed to find a bunch of NOS wiring parts on eBay for a 1941 H-D. Here are some photo's:

Rear Axle Roller Bearing Sleeve Kaput!
The rear roller bearing sleeve of my WL is kaput! If you look closely you will see that the small roller bearing sleeve is really pitted. I spoke to Doepie about it and he suggested that I replace the sleeve.
So - I have ordered a new roller bearing sleeve.

Still More Engine Parts Ordered
Darn! Just when I thought that I had all of the required engine and gearbox parts ordered that Doepie needs to do the engine, carburetor and the gearbox rebuild, he phones me to say that the head studs were damaged and that he suggests that I buy new studs. He also mentioned that 3 of the nuts were damaged as well. I ordered this from the Netherlands as well.
I took the opportunity to also buy the hardware that I need to fasten the primary chain cover, as the chain had mauled the inner and outer cover, as well as, the mounting hardware. I have been able to fix the covers though.
I consequently ordered:
