I might have said this in one of the posts, but just to be clear I am going to repeat myself.
The restoration approach that I have decided upon is to get the 1941 H-D WL that was provided to the SA Union Defense Force in 1941 (about 6 months before the USA became involved in WW2) is as follows:
- I want to get the motorcycle to the original factory condition as close as I possibly can;
- To accomplish this, I will restore the original parts;
- Non-original parts I will replace with New Old Stock (NOS) parts, where such parts are available;
- Else I will use high quality reproduction parts - such as that manufactured by Colony;
- The SAUDF H-D's were painted desert khaki, as they were used in the desert war in North Africa;
- They were also equiped with British military kit (meaning that they were not kitted out with leather saddle bags, but rather with British khaki canvas bags.
